    About the Black R

    What is the Black R, you ask yourself?

    Here at the Black R, we believe two fundamental things: That humans have a right to freedom of speech and press, and that everybody needs a venue through which they can share their thoughts and ideas. Whether or not those thoughts are about world events, local politics, art, or otherwise.

    We are striving for a constant stream of writing and response.

    We allow any student or alumnus to join (under the condtitions found in the Rules and Guidelines), comment on something that is here, and interact with their world.

    If you are interested in writing for the Black R, please read the Rules and Guidelines and register. If you need help with the system, read this page: On the System and Posting, or comment on an Admin post anywhere.

    Rules and Guidelines

    1. Follow the rules of Journalism Ethics. This includes objectivity; no libel, slander, or plagiarism; and factual accuracy where applicable. Especially important: No rumor-mongering or gossip!

    2. No nudity or nudity-related links or pictures may be posted. Any discovered will be deleted and the account of the user will be revoked!

    3. Limit profanity, obscenity, and vulgarity.

    4. Users assume responsibility for their posts. They may register under a pseudonym (pen name). It is recommended, with force, that users only make statements which they would feel comfortable to maintain publicly. All references to self and other users may only use your/their display name.

    To register for the Home page of the Black R

    1. Go to this page, or click the link at the top of the left sidebar under “Initial Registration”.
    2. Fill out the form.
    3. An email will be sent to you with your password.
    4. Log in, change your password, customize your profile, and begin posting.

    To add yourself to sub-blogs

    1. You must be a registered user.
    2. Log in
      Note: You must be logged in!!!
    3. Go to the sub-blog you want to add yourself to,
    4. Find the box at the top of the right sidebar,
    5. Click the button that says “Add Me!”.

    After that, a message should say “successfully added”. Next time you visit the same sub-blog, it should say “Welcome, your name”. This will help you to tell whether or not you are added to that sub-blog. Also, don’t worry if your name doesn’t show up anywhere else; it won’t until you write your first post on that blog.

    Posting

    1. Log in.
    2. Go to the home page of the Black R.
    3. Click the link to go to a sub-blog for which you have registered.
    4. On the menu at the right of the blog, scroll down to the “Meta” section.
    5. Click the link that says “Site Admin” and you should be able to post, etc. from there.

    -or, another, faster way-

    At your dashboard, you will find the title of the blog you are on (i.e. The Black R) with a link next to it that says “view site”. Hover your cursor over the title of the blog, and a menu of all the sub-blogs you have registered for will drop down. Now just pick the one you want, and start posting there.
